The idea is that a sender’s message can be set to auto-delete as soon as the recipient has read it.

WhatsApp is apparently testing a new feature that will allow users to send messages that will self-destruct when it has been opened by the receiving party. This is part of WhatsApp’s mission to make their messaging app even more private and secure. Only a handful of users are able to use this feature at the moment, but testing is said to be completed soon, whereafter it will be rolled out to all users.
