He programmed a chatbot that perfectly mimics her communication style.

Losing a loved one is probably one of the most traumatic and tragic events that one can face in a lifetime. For Joshua Barbeau, this event took place when his fiancé passed away. Joshua managed to keep her alive for several months, though. And he did it using cutting-edge AI technology built by Elon Musk’s OpenAI. In an article by the San Francisco Chronicle, Joshua explained exactly how he used Project December to recreate his wife in the form of a chatbot. All he had to do was set up the chatbot, enter background details about his fiancé, Jessica, and also upload their old chats. The computer is then smart enough to analyse all the data and to adjust its communication style to match her almost perfectly. The creators of OpenAi, which forms the backbone of the chatbot, have warned that this technology could be used in massive misinformation campaigns. If Jessica can successfully be “recreated” by the software, it shouldn’t be too difficult to create other personalities, like terrorists or even to create fake communication from other presidential offices.
