This comes after the police have received more tip-offs and information.

The police have received an influx in tip-offs and insider information about those involved in the chaotic lootings in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng last week. Now, they estimate that more than 3 400 people have been arrested in total. Security agencies are, however, also operating in a careful manner. They have been getting information about possible coordinated attacks on security personnel in the coming days too. In reaction to the threats, the police have ramped up visibility and mobilisation, which also explains their drive to arrest more people at a quicker pace. At this stage, it is estimated that just over 200 people lost their lives during the unrest.
