TikTok has decided to clamp down on investment services and cryptocurrency by banning ads containing any reference to the above. Further to this, they have now also banned sponsored posts that are about weapons, alcohol or gambling. According to the video platform, they want to ensure a safe environment on their app for everyone. Banning financial offerings was an interesting move, because it is a big part of content being produced on TikTok. The hashtag #invest has been used more than 2.8 billion times, for instance. In December last year, TikTok noted that it received a massive spike in complaints about fake investment schemes being advertised on its platform and it seems like the most appropriate response for them was to implement an outright ban.
