A total of 1 163 entries have been made from November 2020 to January 2021.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems that South Africa’s music scene is shining. The South African Music Awards (SAMA) recently announced that they received a record-breaking amount of entries for the coveted music trophies. A total of 1 163 entries were received by the organisation – more than it has ever received since it was started in 1994. The SAMAs celebrate and honour local music, with unique categories like best Kwaito album and a newly created category, best Amapiano album (which bagged 63 entries). Now, a special panel will process the entries and select the nominees for each category. The official list of nominations are set to be released in April.
